Chronologically Controlled Developmental Therapy can help with traumatic brain injury on a multi-dimensional level.
Treatment methods follow the same format as that used for other CNS injuries.
Our treatment methods re-establish foundational sensory-motor information within the CNS. By doing this we can see many changes on different levels of the TBI client.
There is a common misconception of the mental and physical potential of the traumatic brain injured client. They know how to talk, to walk, to run and all other things. The body just doesn't respond to the the things they try. It is a terrible prison to be trapped with your memories. Also, those who recover enough to walk and to use their upper extremites very often have posture and speech problems, gait problems and difficulties with fine motor activites, such as writing, eating, etc...
As with other CNS injuries it appears that the cerebral cortex functions are more protected than other parts of the CNS. Most memories of function remain but the basic functions that are normally internalized during prenatal life are most often erased in similar manner to the loss of information from a computer file when power is interrupted and then restored. The information is erased. It is necessary to stimulate the nervous sytem to transfer information from genetic information to the active nervous system. Only then can the cerebral cortex know where to get the information necessary for integrated thought or function.
